Cholsamaj began their activities before 1990. They acquired their legal status in 1991 with the name Maya' Nimajay CHOLSAMAJ - Centro Educativo y Cultural Maya, Sociedad Civil.
In 2003 they transformed into Fundación Cholsamaj, with new members. Their principal labor is to contextualize and diffuse educational materials for the multicultural environment in Guatemala; especially, those written and designed by members of the Maya People (Pueblo) and directed toward Guatemalan society in general.
Cholsamaj is a Kaqchikel neologism: Chol means successive / sequential order, and Samaj means work or labor. We translate the term as Planification and Systematization.
